A voyage through the cultures

Jávea/Xàbia emits, in every corner, the heritage of the cultures which have populated it. From remote prehistoric eras exist archaeological remains, as is shown by the finds from the Montgó cave, some more than 16,000 years old. Archaeology is one of the most important reasons to explore the history of this municipality, hence the importance of visiting the Soler Blasco archaeological and ethnographical museum, situated in a private 17th century residence in Calle Primicies.

On the ground floor are kept the oldest finds from Montgó Also displayed here are remains from the Bronze Age which come from the sites at Tossalet, Santa Llúcia and Cap Prim, as well as tools from the Iberian settlements of Montgó and from the excavations of the Roman factory at the Punta de l'Arenal (next to the Parador hotel), which was used for salting and the preparation of "Garum" fish sauces.
